Together with Cordeel and Agidens, IVENS is once again facing a great project: the expansion of the tank farm with six additional storage tanks at Tank Opslag Verbeke in Hemiksem.
Construction of modern tank farm consolidates Tank Opslag Verbeke’s position
At Tank Opslag Verbeke (TOV) in Hemiksem the ground will be broken on 1 June for the construction of a completely new and modernised tank park. At the end of last year, TOV concluded an agreement with the Temporary Trade Association founded by Ivens, Cordeel and Agidens. The four parties join forces to have six new storage tanks and a truck loading station ready by the middle of next year. The new construction increases the efficiency, reliability and safety of the site.
Regional specialists take care of construction
Tank Opslag Verbeke is a tank storage company whose core business is the storage and trans-shipment of various types of liquid products. They will undertake the construction work with three regional companies that have specific expertise in the construction of storage terminals: Ivens in Antwerp specialises in, among other things, the construction of storage tanks and piping. Cordeel from Temse is responsible for the civil engineering works and Agidens in Zwijndrecht specialises in electricity, instrumentation and automation. Successful joint projects from the past have encouraged the members of the temporary trade association to work together again today.
Choice for safe and flexible new construction
With its ideal location on the busy Scheldt, Tank Opslag Verbeke is seeing an increasing demand for storage capacity. That is why TOV, together with Ivens, carried out a basic study last year to compare a number of expansion scenarios. In the end it was decided to build six new tanks on the existing terminal, each with a capacity of 1,500 m³. In addition to the tanks, the new construction also includes an automated loading station for truck loading and the necessary facilities to pump products to and from ships.
Safety and environmental protection are at the heart of the construction project. The new installation will, of course, comply with all laws and regulations. In order to be able to respond flexibly to customer requests, TOV even chose to carry out the new installation in accordance with the regulations for P1 storage, which […] the strictest […]. In addition, the operation of the tanks and the loading station are highly automated. This will ensure a safer terminal and greater efficiency. The hand-over and commissioning of this new capacity extension is scheduled for mid-2017.
